Dear Dan,Sue and I ran a church retreat center for over 10 years, 1983-93, and ministered to over 5,000 people during that time. I counseled church leaders during that time. I sort of lived in the bowels of the Church. They knicked-named me "the enema" because I would be brought in win sin had clogged up everything that Jesus would have desired.I got burned out because of the ovewhelming amount of tolerated sin and cover-ups going on throughout Christiandom at the time. In believe our Father, in His kindness, and in fulfillment of His own purposes tricked us into going to Israel to visit friends, Bert & Exie Schlossberg.While there we were attending a prayer conference were a prophet stood up and quoted Zechariah 9:13, " For I will bend Judah as My bow, I will fill the bow with Ephraim. And I will stir up your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece; And I will make you like a warrior’s sword." This was the same man who prophecied the fall of the USSR 13 years before and foretold how hundreds of thousands of Jews would return there to Israel.At the prayer conference he told us that, "God was now pouring forth an Hebraic understanding of the Scriptures to undo what the Greeks have done to the Church." I am married to Mrs. Research. We began to discover writings there that showed that all of the faith practices of the early Church were being lived out by the "Hebraic Stream" of Judaism long before the coming of Jesus. It was this stream that 200 years before the coming of Jesus that taught "you must be born again."Unlike the Judaizing stream that sought rules alone to live by without relationship with God and resulted in "legalistic perversion", that is, trying to be justified in their obedience, the Hebraic stream sought to relate to Him as their ancestor Abraham had done. Paul, understanding this connection tells us in Romans that we who put our trust in Jesus become children of Abraham, and that we are justified by the same trust-base criteria Abraham exemplified.• A discussion of the Hebraic and Judaizing streams would be appropriate.The Hellenistic influence in the church needs the Judaizing stream to survive in some circles, or little or no regard for God's Word in others.• Another key point was God' purpose for meeting in homes before the coming of Jesus. The first criteria was to uphod communal righteousness so that He could answer their prayers and be glorified in their testimonies to His faithfulness. The second was load-bearing in times of trouble. They believed marriages couldn't make it without the help of older men and women in home fellowships.• Another area pertaining to marriage was the fact that the earliest church understood that the highest gift Go gives a man is a wife. There was no Hebrew word for bachelor. A statement befitting the period "If you want to know my love for Jesus, you need to see it in the love I have for my wife." God had designed marriage to bring a man to the end of his ego, in order to love his woman as Jesus would love her.• The home fellowships were communally responsible for raising the next godly generation. They were right there with the parents in education and character development.
